Harbord Village
Often referred to as The South Annex, Harbord Village is a vibrant neighbourhood with a large University population due to its proximity to the University of Toronto. Bounded by Bloor St to the north, Bathurst St to the west, Spadina Ave to the east, and College St to the south, Harbord Village has attracted many urban profesionals because of its close proximity to the downtown core. Harbord Street provides neighbourhood residents with one of the more sophisticated and intimate commercial strips in Toronto. Featuring many fine dining restaurants, bookstores, and galleries, Harbord Street attracts people from all across the city.
In an effort to conserve some of the most pleasing streetcapes in Toronto, residents of Harbord Village are in the process of having their entire neighbourhood designated a Heritage Conservation District. Most of the houses were built between 1870 and 1910 and display an array of characteristics typical of Victorian homes. Whether they are detached, semi-detached or attached, many of these houses are visually appealing to passerbys. Brunswick Avenue between Ulster Street and College Street is the signature block in the neighbourhood with its large boulevard and picturesque trees.
