The Annex
The Annex is a vibrant neighbourhood that is quite diverse with people from all walks of life. The neighbourhood's main shopping district runs along Bloor Street with its eclectic mix of clothing stores, restaurants, cafes, and bookstores. Bordering the University of Toronto, The Annex is definitively one of Toronto's destination neighbourhoods.
Many of The Annex houses were built between 1880 and 1910 and boast Victorian, Queen Anne and Richardsonian Romanesque architectural styles. Between 1910 to 1930, a second wave of Annex homes were built. Although not as elaborate as the first wave of houses, these still stand out as exquisite examples of English Cottage, Georgian and Tudor style architecture. Recently, many of the multi-unit dwellings in the Annex have been converted back to single family houses reflecting The Annex's return to one of the city's premier neighbourhoods.
